Meet Vera, Your AI Assistant

Vera is the AI agent built into Vocal Video. Tell her what you want in plain words, like "make a highlight reel from this collector", and she does the work for you: building videos, setting up collectors, sending requests, and putting together galleries. This article covers where to find her, what she can do, and what to expect.

In this article:

Where to find Vera

  • Anywhere in your account: click the round Vera button in the bottom-right corner of the screen to open her chat panel.
  • In the video editor: click Vera at the top of the editor's sidebar. Here she works on the video you have open.
  • In the template editor: click Vera in the sidebar to work on the template you have open.

The Vera button sits in the bottom-right corner of every page, like here on your Home dashboard:

In the video editor, Vera is the first item in the right-hand sidebar, and her panel opens beside your video. Here she's just moved a scene to the front on request:

The video editor with Vera's panel open: asked to open with Martha Stoumen's scene, she reports Reordered scenes with a Command-Z undo hint, and Martha's scene is now first in the scene list

Vera knows which page you're on, so the Ideas she suggests change with it: on a collector she'll offer to build a highlight reel from its responses, and in a gallery she'll offer to reorder it or suggest a headline. You can click an idea or type your own request.

What Vera can do

Make and edit videos

  • Build a video from one response, or pull the strongest 30 seconds from it.
  • Build a highlight reel from several responses, such as the best moments from everyone who answered a collector. For how multi-person videos work, see How to Create Videos Featuring Multiple People (Montages and Highlight Reels).
  • Edit a video in the editor: tighten the pacing by removing filler words and shortening pauses, reorder scenes, and fix names and wording in the captions and transcript.
  • Change a video's design, such as its theme, colors, fonts, music, format, and AI effects like Studio Sound.
  • Share a draft for review with your teammates.

Videos Vera builds start as drafts. Publishing is always your click.

Set up collectors and request videos

  • Write a new collector from a short description of what you want to ask, or suggest questions based on your brand.
  • Change an existing collector: add, reword, remove, or reorder questions.
  • Send video requests by email. Vera shows you a preview of who will get the request and what it says, and sends only after you confirm. See How to Request Videos.

Find your best responses

Ask "which of my responses are the strongest?" and Vera will look through them and point you to the best moments. She can also star responses for you.

Build galleries

Vera can create a gallery, add published videos to it, reorder it so your strongest video comes first, change its design, and give you its share link or embed code.

Work on templates

In the template editor, Vera can help you write or change a template's Instructions, the directions an AI-directed template follows when it builds a video. See Video Templates: the Complete Guide.

Reviewing and undoing her changes

When Vera changes a video, she lists what she changed in the chat, for example the new order of your scenes, and you see the change in the editor straight away. If you don't like it, press ⌘ Z (Mac) or Ctrl Z (Windows) to undo it, or ask Vera to undo it for you.

What Vera doesn't do

  • Publish videos. She builds and edits drafts; you publish them.
  • Translate collectors. She'll give you a link to the collector's translation page, where Translate with AI does the work. See Localizing Video Collectors, Transcripts and Subtitles.
  • Change your plan or billing. She'll pass billing questions to our support team.
  • Answer every how-to question herself. When you ask how something works and it isn't something she can do for you, Vera hands your question to our help center's assistant, or lets you email our team with your question already filled in.

Vera and AI credits

Vera uses AI credits, charged per request based on the work she did, so a quick question uses far fewer credits than building a video. You can see how many credits you have left on your Home page, and Vera shows a warning in her panel when you're running low.

If you run out, Vera pauses until credits are available. Nothing you've made is affected. For your plan's allowance and how to get more, see AI Credits: What Uses Them and What Happens When You Run Out.

Use your own AI assistant

Already work in Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI assistant? Connect it to your Vocal Video account with our MCP server, and it can do the same work Vera does, from the chat you already use. It takes a couple of minutes: go to Settings > Connect AI Assistant (MCP), copy the server URL into your assistant, and sign in to Vocal Video. (Essential plans and above)

For step-by-step instructions, see Connect Claude, Connect ChatGPT, or Other MCP clients.

Frequently asked questions

Can reviewers use Vera?

Yes, to find and look through responses and videos, and to star responses. Vera doesn't make changes for reviewers; ask a workspace editor or admin instead. For what each role can do, see User Roles and Permissions: Admins, Editors, and Reviewers.

Will Vera send anything without asking me?

No. Before Vera sends a video request, she shows you a preview and waits for you to confirm.

Can I pick up a conversation later?

Yes. When you open Vera's panel, she offers to continue your most recent conversation about a video, and when you open a video she built, the conversation carries on in the editor.
