AI Credits: What Uses Them and What Happens When You Run Out
AI credits pay for the AI work Vocal Video does on your behalf: AI effects in your videos, AI-directed templates, your AI assistant Vera, and translating collectors. Every plan includes them. This article covers how many you get, what uses them, and what happens if you run out.

How many AI credits you get
- Free: 300 AI credits, one time. They don't refill.
- Essential: 600 per year
- Pro: 600 per year
- Scale: 1,200 per year
- Enterprise: custom
On a paid plan, your balance refills to your plan's allowance when your subscription renews. Unused credits don't roll over. When you upgrade, your balance is replaced by your new plan's allowance. If your account has several workspaces, they share one balance. See pricing for current plans.
What uses AI credits
- Publishing a video with AI effects (Studio Sound, filler-word removal, gap shortening, or a background effect): 10 credits per minute of finished video, however many effects you stack. Only the first publish is charged, so fixing a typo and republishing is free.
- Building a video with an AI-directed template, a template that directs its own edit rather than following a fixed structure.
- Conversations with Vera, charged per request, based on the work she did.
- Translating a collector with AI: a flat 10 credits per translation, charged only when it succeeds.
💡 Studio Sound and filler-word removal are on by default, so a new draft video uses credits when you first publish it. You can turn either off in the editor before publishing. See Studio Sound.
Choosing a caption style, editing a transcript, and opening with an AI-selected hook don't use AI credits.
Checking your balance
Your balance is on the Home page. Click Learn more for the AI Credits FAQ, which shows your allowance, what you've used so far, and when your credits refill.
What happens if you run out
Nothing is deleted, and video collection carries on as normal. The AI work pauses until you have credits again:
- Videos using AI effects can't be published until you turn those effects off or add credits. You can also choose Publish Without AI Effects.
- AI-directed templates still build videos, but fall back to a standard edit rather than directing their own, and tell you they did.
- Vera pauses until credits are available.
Getting more AI credits
- On the Free plan: upgrade to a paid plan. Every paid plan includes AI credits that refill every year.
- On an annual plan: add AI credits to your plan in blocks, from the AI Credits FAQ (Add AI credits to your plan →), or wait for your yearly refill.
- On a monthly plan: credits can only be added to annual subscriptions. Switch to annual billing to add them, or wait for your refill.
