Posting Video Testimonials to Facebook

Facebook is where many of your customers' friends, families and colleagues already spend their time, which makes it a great place for a testimonial to travel. Videos there play silently as people scroll, so the best ones are short, captioned, and shaped for where they'll appear: the feed, Reels or Stories.

In this article:

  • Upload the video file for the most attention. It plays right in the feed as people scroll, and it's the only way to post a Reel or a Story.
  • Share a link when you want people to land on your video's branded page. Open the published video, click Share, open the Social tab and click Facebook. Your post shows the video's thumbnail and links to its public page.

Sharing a link works on every plan, for any video with a public page. Uploading means downloading your video, which is included on Essential, Pro, Scale and Enterprise plans.

Feed, Reels or Stories?

  • Feed posts appear on your Page or profile and in your followers' feeds. Square and vertical videos both fill the screen well on a phone.
  • Reels are full-screen vertical videos that Facebook can also show to people who don't follow you yet.
  • Stories are full-screen vertical videos at the top of the app, and they disappear after 24 hours.

One vertical video works for all three. If your Facebook and Instagram accounts are linked, you can also share an Instagram Reel to Facebook as you post it. See Posting Video Testimonials to Instagram Reels and Stories.

Start from a template

The Template Library has ready-made templates for social video. Click Video Templates in the left menu to browse them:

  • Rapid Fire, Marquee, Newswire and Tilt cut short, energetic vertical videos for Reels and Stories. They open on the strongest line and place captions clear of the buttons and text Facebook lays over the video.
  • Square Feed Cut makes a sober, square video of about 45 seconds, one point per scene, with captions that carry the message for viewers with the sound off. It's made for LinkedIn, and it works just as well in the Facebook feed.

Make it yours. The ready-made templates are a starting point, and they're easy to customize. Click a template, then Customize to change its design (colors, fonts, caption style, music and logo), its length, and its editing style, which you describe in plain words in its Instructions. Turn on Use my colors to start from your brand colors. See Video Templates: the Complete Guide.

💡 Note: Rapid Fire, Marquee and Newswire use Pro design elements. On Pro, Scale and Enterprise plans you can publish them as they are; on other plans, swap the Pro font or theme before publishing. Tilt and Square Feed Cut work on every plan.

Already made a video? To make a vertical or square version, choose 9:16 – Vertical or 1:1 – Square from the format menu above the video in the editor. For vertical videos, raise the captions too. Posting Video Testimonials to TikTok walks through both steps, and they work the same way for Facebook.

Keep captions on

Most people scroll Facebook with the sound off, so keep Vocal Video's captions on. They're styled to match your brand, they show for every viewer, and they're the dependable choice for Reels and Stories.

Prefer Facebook's own captions for a feed video? For videos posted to your feed or Page, Facebook lets you attach a caption file, which viewers can turn on and off. To use one instead of on-screen captions:

  1. Duplicate the video, so you keep a captioned version for everywhere else.
  2. In the copy, open Captions and switch captions off with the toggle at the top of the panel, then publish.
  3. Click Download, then Download Video File and Captions (SRT).
  4. Rename the caption file so it ends in its language and country, like customer-story.en_US.srt. Facebook won't recognize it otherwise.
  5. Add the caption file in the video's caption settings on Facebook.

Download and post

  1. Publish your video, then click Download.
  2. Click Download Video File. To use your Vocal Video thumbnail as the video's cover, click Thumbnail too.
  3. Create a post, Reel or Story on Facebook and add the video. Write a line or two about why this customer's story matters, and tag them if they're happy to be tagged.

Posting from your phone? Download the video on your computer and send it to your phone, or sign in to Vocal Video in your phone's browser and download it there.

For more on downloading, see How to Download Your Videos and Raw Responses from Vocal Video.

If Facebook flags your music

Meta, which owns Facebook, scans uploaded videos for copyrighted music, and sometimes flags a track by mistake. When that happens, Facebook may mute your video's audio, including your customer's voice.

The soundtracks included with Vocal Video are licensed for you to use, so a flag on one of them is an error, and you can appeal it from the notice Facebook shows you. If you'd rather avoid the question entirely, remove the music before you publish (Music in the right sidebar, then Remove) and add a song from Facebook's own library when you post a Reel or Story.

Post every new video automatically

To share each newly published video to your Facebook Page without lifting a finger, set up a Zapier integration from Integrations in the left menu. See Automating Vocal Video with Zapier.
