If Vocal Video can’t access your camera or microphone

To record with Vocal Video, camera and microphone access must be allowed in your device or browser settings, and the Vocal Video website must be given temporary permission to use them while the recording page is open.

Most permission issues can be fixed in a minute or two.

About privacy and security

When you grant vocalvideo.com access to your device’s camera and microphone, it is only accessed while:

  • the Vocal Video website is open in your browser, and
  • you see the recording interface onscreen.

Your device’s camera and microphone are never accessed at any other time.

Your recording is uploaded only after you choose to submit it, and you can request to have it deleted at any time, even after uploading.

Before you begin

Open the recording link directly in your browser:

  • We recommend Chrome or Safari on iPhone, iPad, and Mac
  • We recommend Chrome on Android and Windows

Avoid opening the recording link inside apps such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Gmail, Outlook, Teams, or Slack. These apps may use an in-app browser that does not support camera or microphone access correctly.

Allow access when prompted

When your browser asks for permission to use your camera or microphone:

Choose Allow

You may see separate prompts for camera and microphone access. Choose Allow for each prompt.

Review your camera and microphone permissions

If you see the message above, click on your device below to follow the steps to make sure your browser and the Vocal Video website have permission to access your camera and microphone:

Additional troubleshooting

If permissions appear correct but recording still does not work:

  • Refresh the page
  • Close and reopen your browser
  • Try opening the recording link in a different supported browser
  • Restart your device
  • Make sure no other apps are using your camera or microphone
    • Zoom
    • Teams
    • FaceTime
    • Google Meet

If using a mobile device and your recording must be horizontal, make sure Rotation Lock or Portrait Orientation Lock is turned off before recording.
