Integrating Vocal Video with Slack

Let's say you want to send a message to a Slack channel whenever one of your workspaces gets a new video collector response. Here's how to do it.

Note: to use this integration, you'll need a paid Vocal Video subscription.

Step 1) Find Slack in our Integration Directory

Go to Integrations > Messaging & Chat and click the Slack card:

Step 2) Select a pre-built automation template

Select the automation template titled Send a message to a Slack channel when you get a new collector response:

💡  Note: If this is the first time you've set up a Zapier-powered integration in Vocal Video, you'll see a one-time popup letting you know you're about to use the embedded Zapier interface. Click through that to continue.

Step 3) Create a free Zapier account, or log in if you have one

If you already have a Zapier account, you can log in within the embedded Zapier popup. If you don't already have a Zapier account, you can create one right within our embedded popup, without even selecting a password.

💡 Note: If you have multiple workspaces, you'll be prompted to select which workspace the integration should apply to. (Vocal Video integrations operate on one workspace at a time, so you can have different integrations active for different workspaces.)

Step 4) Configure the Vocal Video side of the integration

In the embedded Zapier builder, click through the steps to configure the Vocal Video side of your automation. Basically, just keep clicking the big blue Continue button at the bottom!

⚡️ Pro tip: If you want to only send a Slack notification when a specific video collector gets a response, you can do that! On the Trigger step, click the Video Collector dropdown and under the Video Collector tab you should see a list of your video collectors. Select one, and this Zap will only be triggered when that specific collector gets a response. (For more on collector-specific integrations, read the section on Collector Integrations below.)

Step 5) Configure the Slack side of the integration

Click through these steps to configure the Slack side of your automation:

  • App & Event: Slack should already be selected as the App, and the Event should already be set to Send Channel Message
  • Account: Click Connect to grant Zapier access to your Slack account. Be sure to click "Allow" in the popup window that opens.
  • Action: Here you'll select which Slack channel you want to send messages to. You can also modify the message formatting, bot name & icon, and other settings. But all you really have to select is which channel to send messages to.
  • Test & Publish: After you test that the integration is working properly, the last step is to Publish it. This will turn your integration on, and you'll automatically see Slack notifications when you get new responses! If you like, you can also give your Zap a name.

Now that your Slack integration is configured and enabled, click the X icon in the upper-right corner of the window to close the embedded Zapier builder.

Sending Slack Messages When Videos are Published

Want to send Slack messages when new videos are published? No problem -- setting this up is very similar to the automation we just set up! Just go back to the integration directory, click the Slack card, and select the template Send a message to a Slack channel when a new video is published. Follow the steps, and you should be good to go.

What about Microsoft Teams?

No problem -- we also have ready-made integration templates to send messages in Microsoft Teams when new videos are published or when new responses are received. You'll find our integration templates in Integrations > Messaging & Chat > Microsoft Teams.

Note: we also have step-by-step tutorials for saving your published videos and new responses to Google Drive.
