How to Edit Captions and Attribution
Vocal Video automatically creates captions (aka subtitles) and a transcript for collected videos. You can edit captions, transcript, and speaker attribution in the video editor.
Edit captions
Transcript edits update the captions shown in the video and the transcript available after publishing.
- Go to Videos and open the draft video.
- In the left panel, choose Scenes + Transcript if the transcript is not already visible.
- Select the words you want to change.
- Click Edit, make your changes, and save.

Show or hide captions
Hiding captions only changes what appears in the video. The transcript and caption downloads are still available after publishing.
- Open Captions in the editor sidebar.
- Turn Show captions on or off.

Highlight the current word
This controls whether the currently spoken word is highlighted in visible captions.
- Open Captions.
- Turn Highlight current word on or off.

Change caption position
Attribution cards automatically move when needed so they do not overlap captions.
- Open Captions.
- Use Caption Position to move captions up or down in the video frame.

Change caption fonts and colors
- Open Design.
- Use Fonts to change the Captions font.
- Use Colors to adjust video text colors that are available for the selected theme and scene.

Edit speaker names and titles
Speaker attribution is managed separately from captions.
- Open People in the editor sidebar.
- Edit the respondent name or title.
You can also select a scene, open Scene, and use the Attribution section to show, hide, or edit attribution for that scene.
