Troubleshooting Sound Input On Macs

If you're getting a message that we can't access your camera or microphone, read this article.

If you see the "We're not getting any audio" or "Try speaking a little louder" warnings, you'll need to select a different sound input source, or adjust the volume on your selected input source. Follow these steps:

  • Click the microphone indicator and try selecting a different audio input source:
  • If that doesn't work, open your Mac's System Settings, click Sound, then under Output & Input, adjust the Input volume of the microphone you want to use (be sure it's the same one you select in the Vocal Video microphone menu):
  • If your iPhone is selected as the audio input source via Apple's Continuity Camera feature, make sure your phone is close by and its microphone isn't obstructed. If that doesn't help, read this guide by Apple.
  • If you have a Bluetooth device selected as your audio input source, be sure that it's on, and test that it's working properly via the System Preferences > Sound > Output & Input preferences panel (shown above).
  • If none of the above works, try restarting your Mac and recording again.

Troubleshooting Sound Input on Linux and Other Platforms

If you're having microphone input issues on Linux or another computing platform not mentioned above, be sure you have granted vocalvideo.com access to your camera and microphone, and that the correct microphone input source is selected with the microphone selector.

If you've done that and you're still seeing the no-audio or low-volume warnings, please search the web for how to adjust your system's microphone settings.
